Professor
Barbara L. Brody, Director of the Division of Community
Ophthalmology at the UCSD Shiley Eye Center, was selected
to give the Roehr
Memorial Lecture at the Stein Institute for Research on Aging in March
2004.
The lecture, entitled “Resilience of the Human Spirit: Lessons in
Overcoming
Loss from the Study of People Living with Macular Degeneration,” was
aired

Lingyun Cheng, M.D., and William H. Freeman, M.D.,
were invited to demonstrate new surgical techniques and
deliver an academic symposium on new trends and developments
of vitreoretinal sugery for posterior segment diseases
by the Chinese Ophthalmological Society. The visit took
place at the new Kang-Ming Eye Hospital in Taiyuan,
China from September 14th to 22nd, 2004.
David B. Granet, M.D., was selected as Executive
Committee member of the American Academy of Pediatrics,
2004 Section on the Ophthalmology Executive Committee.
Don O. Kikkawa, M.D., was appointed Associate Examiner for the
Oral
Board Exam, for American Board of Ophthalmology, San Francisco, May
2004. Dr. Kikkawa was also appointed as Program Chair for joint American
Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and
Reconstructive Surgery Scientific Symposium in Chicago, Illinois, 2005.
Pamela A. Sample, Ph.D., was selected
as Chair of the Standards Committee on Visual Function
for the Board of International Perimetric Society.
Robert N. Weinreb, M.D., and Professor
Erik Greve (Amsterdam) edited the first edition of “Glaucoma
Diagnosis”, an international consensus on glaucoma
