As
I watch our magnificent expansion take form, I find it only
appropriate to reiterate my appreciation to our supporters,
from the intiation of the Shiley Eye Center to the present.
Our growth continues to present challenges
to maintain our quality of care, teaching, and contributions
to preventing and treating vision loss throughout our community.
So much that once more our growth is confounding our plans.
Though we’ve just caught our breath, we must start again.
Presently, we are working toward further expansion of our
clinical space, surgical facility, and community lecture hall.
Over the years, we have found the Viewpoint
to be very popular with our patients, and a great tool to
communicate the vast number of Center’s research endeavors,
clinical activities, and social events. Through the pages
of Viewpoint, we’ve shared that many of our Faculty
have been elected by their peers as Presidents of leading
medical societies, presented prestigious lectures worldwide,
and honored as a Best Doctor in America. I hope you will also
find this issue brimming with fascinating articles.
Occasionally, we are privileged to be part
of a story that transcends politics and borders, one that
produces changed lives. This fall, two young boys from Jordan,
facing a life of blindness, turned to our skillful surgeons
for help. But their sight-saving care was only made possible
due to the partnership of philanthropists and patients who
have supported our Blind Baby Fund. Coincidentally, and certainly
of interest is that this fund was initiated for the support
of Israeli children. The needs of children should always transcend
politics. This heartwarming account is chronicled on page
seven.
My appreciation to each of you for your continued
trust in the dedicated people who make up the Shiley Eye Center.
Sincerely,
Stuart I. Brown, M.D.
