Jiagang “Jack” Zhao, Ph.D., is Assistant Project Scientist. Dr. Zhao received his undergraduate degree in Genetics from Fudan University (Shanghai, China). He went to New York City and completed his graduate studies in molecular and developmental biology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Then he came to the west coast and received postdoctoral fellowship training in molecular neurobiology at the Salk Institute. Prior to join University of California, Dr. Zhao had spent several years in biotech industry to work on disease drug target identification and biomarker discovery.

Dr. Zhao’s research interests focus on the cell fate restriction of human pluripotent stem cells and the potential applications in disease modeling and stem cell-based replacement strategy for eye diseases.
