"The Most Wonderful Program"
The Center for Community Ophthalmology received a call from a mother whose son was seen on the EyeMobile. She was in a panic and said that her son needed glasses. She kept asking if we had a building where her son should go to get the glasses. She kept repeating over and over that she did not have any insurance.
One of our staff members listened carefully, trying to understand what she was asking for. Since some children are referred from the EyeMobile to the Ratner Children's Eye Clinic, we thought she might be asking about that building. We then inquired what exactly it was that she needed. She said that her son's grandmother had taken him to his EyeMobile appointment. When asked if she had received a paper about her son's eye exam, she replied she had and that it indicated that he needed glasses.
We were able to tell her that her son had been examined on the EyeMobile and that his glasses would be delivered to him at his school within the next few days. She exclaimed, "This is the most wonderful program. Thank you so much!" She then told us that neither she nor her husband wore glasses and that they never thought that their son might need them. She let us know that if it were not for this service, he might never have gotten the glasses that he needed.
